A Month in the Country, J L Carr.

This is such a beautifully written book. The premise is a WW1 survivor travelling to the sanctuary of a Yorkshire village, to uncover a painting discovered on a church wall. Set in 1920, “A Month in the Country” illustrates, through the interactions and personalities, how human nature really doesn’t change. SO well observed. So well articulated. This is one of the greats for me.
